Staying Healthy
Living through a pandemic we are all looking for ways to boost our immune function and stay not only healthy, but resilient during this tremendous time of stress. Less pain and a better functioning body wouldn’t be so bad either, right? That’s were manual lymph drainage massage comes in. This modality works with the lymphatic system. This incredible system cleanses our blood checking for impurities, viruses, bacteria, chemicals, heavy metals and just about anything else you can think of that can make you feel ill.
The Lymphatic System
The lymph is made of a few different structures but most of us probably know the lymph nodes. Whenever you’ve had a sore throat or infection starting in your respiratory system, you’ve probably felt some of these nodes become sore and swollen. That’s because they are your filtration system and they are always fighting to keep you well. This system does not have its own pump like the heart so we have to manually drain it whether through exercise, dry brushing, rebounding or manual drainage massage. These activities help to increase lymphatic circulation assisting in detoxification of the body. Draining the lymph system helps to cleanse and regenerate the tissue and organs of the body to promote balanced chemistry. It also encourages the formation of lymphocytes, which produce antibodies, making you more resistant to infections. It turns on the parasympathetic nervous system, your “rest and digest” system, that helps to reduce stress and turn on your relaxation response.
Manual Lymph Drainage
I’m excited to share that I’ve finally, after 3 years of waiting, received my first manual lymph drainage training. It was amazing to learn everything this modality can help with. From fibromyalgia pain, to Lyme’s disease detoxification, bursitis, neuralgia and pain reduction at injury sites from car accidents, sports and surgeries. This is because manual lymph drainage reduces the inflammatory chemistry of tissue and helps to speed up recovery time. The best part? It is a comforting yet effective technique that can be used even when a person is experiencing tremendous pain.
